Permanently Stabilized Walls in Mt. Vernon, IN
Challenge
This homeowner in Mt. Vernon, IN were growing very concerned with their basement wall. "A couple years ago, we started noticing a small stair-step crack forming on our back wall. It wasn't that big so we didn't think too much of it. As the years went on the crack continued to grow. After the wet spring that we had, our wall started to bow inwards. I started having nightmares about the wall falling in," the homeowner said.
Stair-step cracking and bowing walls are both signs that the wall is failing. This can be caused numerous of ways but in this homeowners case, the problem began with hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure is formed as water saturates the backfill soil around your foundation, the water then exerts pressure against the wall.
Solution
The homeowners met with Damon Cheatham of Healthy Spaces and after a comprehensive evaluation, Damon was able to present a solution that would ensure stabilizing their basement walls.
The Healthy Spaces team installed 11 PowerBraces from floor to ceiling in the basement along the perimeter and asked to include a tightening kit. Powerbraces are specifically designed to support basement walls and allow for potential straightening over time. That's where a tightening kit is crucial. The PowerBrace has a patented system that allows for tightening. Which means it can actually improve the condition of the wall over time, without compromising the condition of the wall by straightening it too fast.
