Mold Found in Carmi, IL Crawl Space

Challenge

Carmi, IL homeowner Jason, was troubled by his musty, moldy crawl space. Anytime it would rain, water would leak into his crawl space through the block foundation walls. Because Jason constantly had standing water and moisture in his crawl space, it caused mold to eventually grow. After calling Healthy Spaces to give him a free assessment of his crawl space, Design Specialist, Abe Ford, designed a solution to restore his crawl space.

Solution

Abe suggested that we first needed to treat for the mold by applying a cleaning product and scrubbing the wood to ensure that all of the fungi comes off. Next, we applied a barrier over it. Then we installed a SmartSump pump system. The SmartSump is the ideal option for a crawl space. It comes equipped with a cast-iron Zoeller primary pump, an airtight lid with an airtight floor drain, and a WaterWatch alarm system. Installing a vapor barrier in addition to the sump pump, slows or prevents the evaporation of ground moisture into the crawl space air. It can also turn your crawl space into a semi-conditioned space - one that is close to the temperature of the living space above.
