Waterguard Installation in Leaking Evansville, IN Basement

Challenge

The homeowners contacted Healthy Spaces over the weekend stating that their basement was leaking due to the recent unseasonable wet weather. They needed a system that would remove the excess water, run without oversight, and keep working even when they head out of town. The underlying cause of the water intrusion was the clay bowl effect.

The clay bowl effect occurs when rainwater soaks through the looser fill soil around the home and is held up against the foundation by the more compact virgin soil surrounding the looser fill. This home in Evansville, even though it is older, is still suffering from the clay bowl effect. Each time it rains, the basement leaks and several inches of water intrude into the basement.

According to the homeowners, they are not able to store items in the basement for fear of water damage and mold growth and they have noticed the leaking leads to an odor that permeates the house.

Solution

The solution for these homeowners is the Waterguard System paired with a Super Sump Pump. The Healthy Spaces expert technicians will use jack hammers to dig a perimeter trench system into which they will place the Waterguard. One of the unique features of the Waterguard system is that it sits on the footer, not down in the dirt, so the homeowners never have to worry that their system will clog with dirt or debris, even during an unexpected rainfall.

The installation team from Healthy Spaces will install a state of the art Zoeller pump into the Waterguard system, which will keep the water swiftly moving out of the basement.

Another unique feature of the Waterguard system is the wall flange. The wall flanges allow any water leaking in the basement from the walls to be captured by the Waterguard system and pumped out of the basement.

A jack hammer is used to create the perimeter trench for the Waterguard system. Installation of Waterguard perimeter drain system progresses by digging out the trench and clearing it for the waterguard to be laid.

Sump pump is installed

Once the Waterguard is installed, cement is poured to cover the system and set it in place

The interior is thoroughly cleaned to remove debris and the system is tested.

Here is a challenging section of the project, where the team had to install Waterguard underneath a nonload bearing wall in the semi-finished basement.

Here, you can see the exterior drainage line with Iceguard as it is installed. This will move the water out of the basement and far away from the home, so it doesn't sink back into the basement

Here, the technician is testing the Waterguard system to insure that all the components are properly functioning.

Here is the lawnscape, a special corrugated plastic cover for the drainage line. It allows the water out, but creates a safe exit point--no tripping or divots to deal with here!
