Cold, Damp Crawl Space in Evansville, IN
Challenge
Crawlspaces are easily and oftentimes overlooked and often ignored. However, they actually have a significant impact on the entire house. Many crawl spaces have an access door to the outside like this Evansville, IN home did. Most of them have a cover made of plywood or other materials, but this door was wide open inviting rain, animals, and other debris into the crawl space. Homeowner Jerry H. was worried about the state of his crawl space. He had always taken preventative methods to avoid water from getting in such as gutter downspout extender to prevent excess water from flowing against his crawl space, and essentially getting inside of it.
Solution
A Design Specialist worked with Jerry to decide what products would best suit his needs. Although the crawl space had very little standing water, it was full of moisture and mold that needed to be taken care of which was evident on the wet floor joists. The current liner was replaced with a new CleanSpace lining. This encapsulation system satisfies all of the repair criteria while dramatically transforming the area into a healthy, usable space. This crawl space now has no more humidity than the space upstairs. A new TripleSafe sump pump was installed so that water would be directed out of the crawl space through discharge lines. Once the water is outside your home, the idea is to get it to run to a place in the yard where it will continue its flow downhill and away from the house. The Everlast door is the final product used in this crawl space so it seals all air leaks to the outside and keeps the space dry.
