Mold Affecting Homeowner in Evansville, IN
Challenge
Homeowner Tom M. has been living in his home for many years when he had recently begun to notice both temperature changes in his home, as well as a musty smell coming from his crawl space. When he went down to check it out, he noticed that the plastic liner that was once supposed to act as a barrier in his crawl space wasn't doing its job anymore. It was no longer sealed at the perimeter and allowing mold and moisture a home. There was mold growing all over the beams as well, which he knew couldn't be healthy at all.
He knew this job was too much for him to try to take on himself, so he decided to give Healthy Spaces a call to transform his space.
Solution
Tom S. chose our company after Googling local specialists and called to schedule his free inspection with us. We sent Design Specialist, Bob Roberts, to his home and give him a same-day quote.
After the inspection, they decided that encapsulating the crawl space would be the best fit for Tom. They also added a new sump pump, crawl space door, and outdoor drainage outlet.
Before they started encapsulating, they got rid of all of the mold growing on organic material with a mold remediation treatment. This kills all of the mold and prevents it from growing back. Next, they started the process of CleanSpace. the installed a dimpled polyethylene membrane under the CleanSpace liner which directs water to the sump pump. The CleanSpace encapsulation system is then installed to satisfy all repair criteria while transforming the area into a healthy, usable space. There's an agent in it called UltraFresh in the plastic that prevents mold and bacteria growth and is also odorless and safe. A SmartSump was installed to catch all of the water that might end up in the crawl space and dispose of it. The Lawnscape outlet was installed in the yard. These outlets are connected to the downspout to keep the pipe out of the yard. Lastly, the crawl space access door was sealed tight with an EverLast door. This door is all plastic which stops air and moisture from entering.
Tom is happy with the transformation of his crawl space and is now saving money on his energy bill every month.
