Evansville, IN Basement Leaking While Waterguard is Installed
Challenge
This Evansville basement was consistently leaking from the walls and seam where the walls meet the floor slab. The homeowners stated that there was not a point in the year, regardless of precipitation, that the basement was dry. There are 877 square feet of unusable space in this wet basement that the homeowners would like to be able to use for storage. At present, they are too concerned that anything in the basement will mold, so they cannot use the basement.
Upon beginning work on 3/19/2014, Steven and his crew noticed that as they were creating the trench for the Waterguard, it was filling up with water. There was so much water coming in from the walls and floor that Steven decided that they needed to start up the TripleSafe sump pump and begin pumping water out of the basement before the system was even half installed!
Solution
Steven Joseph, Jr and his Healthy Spaces installation team installed 106 linear feet of Waterguard, 1 TripleSafe Sump Pump and 22 feet of discharge line, a floor drain, and 106 linear feet of CleanSpace Wall System. On the outside of the home, they installed two Iceguards and two Lawnscapes to make sure that water was being directed far enough from the home to keep if from coming back in the basement.
The Waterguard perimeter drain system will capture both the water weeping from the block foundation walls and the water coming up from the floor. The Waterguard will direct the water to the TripleSafe Sump Pump system where it will be removed from the basement. Additionally, the CleanSpace Wall System will help to direct the wall moisture into the Waterguard system and isolate that moisture from the overall basement environment. This will lower the relative humidity in the basement and decrease the risk of mold.
The homeowners selected a TripleSafe sump pump because it was such a powerful and reliable Zoeller pump. With 3 pumps, an alarm, and battery backup, this unit will easily keep up with the amount of water coming in to the basement, even during a storm!
