Central City, KY Bowed Wall Repair
Challenge
The Vincents of Central City, KY were in the midst of redecorating their basement guest room when they noticed that the eastern wall appeared to have sheared off at the bottom and was bowing inward. They immediately ceased work and contacted the foundation repair specialists at Healthy Spaces. They had worked with Healthy Spaces in the past on a basement waterproofing system and knew that they could trust Damon Cheatham to create a custom, permenant solution for their home.
Damon discovered that a broken sprinkler pipe and poor grading had allowed groundwater to pool along the eastern wall and that caused swelling in the soil. The pressure from that soil pressed in on the block foundation wall and caused the shearing and bowing.
Solution
Damon helped the Vincent's find a reputable sprinkler company to repair and reroute the sprinkler system more efficiently to keep water away from the foundation wall. Next, he designed a custom solution to repair the bowing wall over time since the Vincents did not want to excavate next to the wall on the exterior and straighten the wall immediately. This solution will allow Mr. Vincent to tighten the wall seasonally and gradually shift the wall back in place.
The installation team installed 4 GeoLock Wall Anchors along the eastern wall and trained the Vincents how to tighten the anchors in the future. In addition, Steve, the project foreman, was able to recommend a good landscaper to regrade the yard appropriately.
