Lamar, IN Basement Brightwall Wall Restoration
Challenge
Many homes in Indiana and Kentucky are constructed over block foundation walls. These foundation walls leak when groundwater is introduced. Some of the block foundation walls will become discolored as the water runs down the inside. The discoloration is a signal that minerals are remaining behind as the groundwater evaporates into the basement air. The increased humidity in the basement raises the risk of mold and fungal growth, causes musty smells, and reduces the usability of the space.
"This is exactly what was happening with our basement. [It was] musty, smelly, gross and I hated going down there. We hated sending guests down there, too. It just wasn't a good place," said Greg.
Damon, a basement design specialist, met with Greg and his wife to help make their basement a more useful and healthy space in their home. The challenge with the entire project was the timeline. Greg's sister and brother in law were coming into town to visit and the basement needed to finished up and cleaned fast!
Solution
"The wall water needed to be taken care of prior to entering the indoor environment and increasing the relative humidity in the basement. They needed a solution that would look beautiful right away--there wasn't time for priming and painting after installation," said Damon.
The best solution is BrightWall. Bright wall isolates the leaking walls from the interior of the basement by creating an anti microbial barrier that directs moisture into a water removal system like Waterguard. The homeowners were excited to add the Brightwall system into their existing Waterguard system in time for their guests.
