Is Your Home Healthy?
Are you healthy? Check. Is your home healthy? Not sure.
Mold grows in damp, cold, and dark environments and doesn't stop multiplying until it gets treated. As a result, the basement and crawl space are some of the most common areas of mold growth in a home. There are many reasons to treat your mold problem because it will get worse. Mold needs 4 things to grow: spores, food, water or high humidity, and the right temperature. Prevention is the best solution to control all mold problems. We can’t eliminate organic material because our homes are made of it, but what we can control is the moisture.
The key problem for humidity in your home is a phenomenon called the "stack effect". The stack effect is a process in which hot air leaves the home through your attic and upper levels. As it does, a vacuum is created below, and new air is pulled upwards through the basement, crawl space, and lower levels. It has been proven that 50% of the air you breathe in from the first floor comes from the basement or crawl space.
Don't put your loved one's health at risk
Children are especially susceptible to mold allergies, though adults can be affected as well. No one thinks mold is healthy or good in a home. It’s all bad. According to the CDC, “The Institute of Medicine (IOM) found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people; with asthma symptoms in people with asthma; and with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in individuals susceptible to that immune-mediated condition.”
Symptoms of mold can include:
- Allergies
- Asthma
- Stuffy nose
- Wheezing
- Red or itchy eyes/skin
If you have experienced any of these symptoms while at home but clears up when you leave, you may have mold that you don’t know about. You could be writing off mold allergies as a common cold, while your mold issue is only growing worse inside your home.
Remove and Prevent Mold Growth
Preventing mold involves controlling molds’ signature element to survival- water. Prevention is key because when we control the moisture, we control the mold.
Our SaniDry dehumidifier will work to circulate the air throughout the space. With this system, it cools the air to get the water out of it and will keep humidity low to block out moisture and stop mold growth. It is energy star rated and doesn’t have to be in the specific place that it’s drying.
Mold in your home might not be your top priority because it’s easy to put it out of sight, out of mind, but, just because you’re not paying attention to it doesn’t mean it isn’t causing problems to your home or loved ones. Call today to schedule your free inspection and learn how we can help you.
