Photo Album: Mid-Remodel Crawl Space Solution in Whitesville, KY
Homeowner Benjamin Z. from Whitesville, KY was remodeling his home. While starting with the flooring, the tore out all of the floors, including the joists. While the floors were open, he noticed that the crawl space was in pretty bad shape and could use some help. He decided to call Healthy Spaces before he got too much further in his remodel, so he could take care of the issues right away and he wouldn't have issues after his project was complete.
One of our System Design Specialists, Damon Cheatham, came to do an inspection on the crawl space. Since the floors above were already taken off, it made the inspection a lot easier. Damon recommended that this crawl space get a CleanSpace vapor barrier to satisfy all of the repair criteria while dramatically transforming the area into a healthy, usable space. Now, this crawl space has no more humidity than space upstairs. In addition to this, SilverGlo was added to insulate the rim joists. By isolating the house from the earth and adding insulation, this crawl space made a huge leap forward in the energy efficiency of the home.
This crawl space is in amazing condition and will stay that way for years to come.
No Insulation Present
This home is losing a lot of money without the crawl space having insulation in it. To save as much energy as possible, SilverGlo paneling was installed. It consists of tiny graphite particles that reflect heat and shine a silver/grey color.
An Easily Accessible Crawl Space
Here's something we don't see too often- an open crawl space. With the remodeling process beginning, we had the perfect opportunity to come to encapsulate this crawl space and make it healthy for the homeowners.
The Current Problem
The current 6mil barrier in the crawl space wasn't living up to these homeowner's standards. With dirt and mold inside, the homeowners want an extra place to store things. When the crawl space is finished, it will be the perfect place for that.
Perfect Place for Storage
After the floor is laid above, there's still plenty of room. This is a great place for extra storage of items that will stay dry for years to come.
An Easy Solution
After all of the 6mil plastic was taken out, a CleanSpace vapor barrier was installed. This barrier protects the crawl space from the outside earth, preventing excess water, mold, and bugs that you don't want to be welcomed.
