Photo Album: Sagging Floor Repaired in Central City, KY
Sagging floors are a very real problem in Central City, Ky. Much like Bremen, Graham, and other cities in Muhlenberg County, Central City has a great deal of silty clay soil. Numerous homes have been built on this silty clay and one thing that crops up as a foundation problem is the settling of subfloor supports and the resulting sagging floors.
Sagging floors are more than just a nuisance to be lived with. They are an indication that foundation movement may be occuring, or that the subfloor supports in the crawlspace are no longer adequately providing support to the floors in the home.
Thankfully, Healthy Spaces has the ability to repair sagging floors and failing supports with a rugged, durable support post that can be adjusted as needed. These supports are called SmartJacks and they are one of the many Foundation Supportworks products that Healthy Spaces can use to find a custom repair plan for your home--whether it's sagging floors or settling foundations. Check out this photo album to see the problems that SmartJacks can repair. If your foundation is settling, or your floors are sagging, contact Healthy Spaces today for your FREE estimate!
Sagging Floor Due to Support Settling in Central City, KY
Here, you can see that the wooden subfloor joists are definitely resting heavily on the block and they are clearly slanted in such a way that the floor above it is sagging in that area.
Close Up of Shims placed on support blocks
In this photo, you can see two different concrete block supports that have been shimmed with chunks of wood. This was a common solution to sagging floors before adjustable SmartJacks were available.
Missing Crawlspace Support
Here is one area where the support block is missing. We can't be sure where it went or why, but the beam is now resting on the dirt floor and rusting.
Compacting the base for SmartJack
The Healthy Spaces team has excavated a section of the crawlspace floor and placed a compactible fill soil to create a solid base for the SmartJack support. Here, you can see the tamper compacting the fill.

Here, you can see the SmartJack's concrete base has been placed and is ready for the SmartJack to be put in place.
