Welcome back to our 5-part weekly series on things you can do to prepare your home for the fall and winter months, making it more comfortable and saving you money! Here is Tip #3: Insulate Your Crawl Space. If you have fiberglass insulation in the crawl space ceiling, it won’t protect you from frozen pipes, cold floors, and high heating bills. The ductwork in a vented crawl space is another problem. Outside air and temperatures make your ducts cold in the wintertime, which forces your HVAC system to work overtime. We recommend air sealing and insulating your rim joist. By sealing gaps around the perimeter of your foundation, we reduce conductive heat loss by insulating the rim joist with foam insulation. Stay tuned next Monday for Tip #4 on things you can do leading up to the cooler months, making your home more comfortable and energy-efficient!
