Moldy, Wet Crawl Space Due to Mold Is Now Useable in Payneville, KY
Challenge
Homeowner Louisa B. has been living in her Payneville, Kentucky home for a handful of years when she had recently noticed that her allergies were getting worse and worse. She did some research and found that her crawlspace might have been the culprit. Not only was air quality a concern, but the floors above the crawl space were always cold, too. Louisa gave Healthy Spaces a call to see what her next step in having a healthy home would be.
Solution
Design Specialist, Bob Roberts, gave a free estimate and came up with a game plan to eliminate the mold and keep it away permanently. First, our team sprayed a mold remediation treatment. This is a crucial first step to ensure that the mold is gone for good. Secondly, RimJoist insulation was installed to help keep the moisture out. This will also help keep the crawl space at a steady temperature and eliminate extra costs on future electric bills.
CleanSpace was then ready to be installed. This durable liner is 20mil thick made of many layers of polyester cord reinforcement. Fixed on the walls of the crawl space, it will stay where it’s installed and provides a barrier for any water that may enter the space. One of the greatest benefits of CleanSpace is the antimicrobial additive manufactured into the liner. This odorless and safe additive prevents mold growth on the inside of the liner.
Finally, to direct water out of the crawl space, we installed a new sump pump. If water enters the crawl space, it flows beneath the CleanSpace liner, across drainage matting to the sump pump. The sump pump then pumps the water out of the space through a discharge line away from the house.
Healthy Spaces worked with Louisa to help eliminate the water and mold in the crawl space, making it dry and healthy. Now that the crawl space has been dramatically transformed, homeowner Louisa doesn't have to worry about her allergies and has a new clean place for storage, which is a bonus.
