Crawlspace Energy Efficiency Increased in Newburgh, IN
Challenge
The challenge in this Newburgh home was that the crawlspace was only 18" tall, but experiencing both water intrusion and cold floors. The homeowners were noticing that the floors seems drafty and cold, and there was a moist feeling to them that indicated water was present in the crawlspace.
Upon inspecting the crawlspace, Richard Cline of Healthy Spaces discovered that the rolled fiberglass insulation in the crawlspace was moldy and would need to be removed before a thorough mold remediation could be completed. After that, the cold floor issues would be able to be addressed.
Solution
The best solution for cold crawlspace floors is a combination of Silverglo insulation and Cleanspace crawlspace encapsulation engineered film.
First, Richard removed the moldy fiberglass insulation and disposed of it in sealed plastic bags. Next, he scrubbed all surfaces with an disinfectant to kill the mold spores. After that, Richard trimmed the Silverglo Insulation and secured them into the rim joists. Then, Richard secured the SilverGlo to the crawlspace walls and covered that with the CleanSpace engineered film, which is a 20 Mil thick barrier, guaranteed against rips, tears, or water on top of the liner for 25 years!
