Utica, KY Crawlspace Vapor Barrier Installation
Challenge
Crawlspaces have really bad reputations--they are dirty, dank, and downright disagreeable to enter. That's why these Utica, KY homeowners had opted not to hang out in theirs very often. In fact, they admitted to not having been in the crawlspace for 2 years before discovering it was flooded. When the homeowners contacted Healthy Spaces, they were facing down a huge issue--the existing vapor barrier had failed and was sitting inside a puddle of moldy mud in the middle of the crawlspace. Water was pouring in the crawlspace from the foundation walls, and the entire area was engulfed in mold.
Solution
Damon checked out the crawlspace and helped the homeowners create a custom crawlspace waterproofing system to fit under their new CleanSpace vapor barrier.
The installation team treated the entire crawlspace for mold using Biocide and Forticil products, coupled with comprehensive surface abrasion and dehumidification steps. Next, the mold debris was removed from the crawlspace and the crawlspace dirt floor releveled prior to the EZ flow waterproofing piping being installed.
After the waterproofing piping was in place, the team installed the crawlspace sump pump and discharge line. After that, the CleanSpace vapor barrier was installed to seal off the interior of the crawlspace from the ground water. Then, the installation team installed a crawlspace-sized Sani-dry dehumidifier.
"We are very pleased with the results and while I don't plan on going down there, it's incredibly helpful to know I'm not breathing in mold and fungus just living above the crawlspace," said the homeowner.
