Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Water Troubles in Utica, KY
Healthy Spaces received a call from a homeowner in Utica, Kentucky, who was having drainage issues. Water was collecting and then running into a single collection spot in the corner of his crawl space. He was interested in encapsulating the space to prevent future flooding and moisture from happening again. Moisture and humidity were present for a while, resulting in mold growth on organic surfaces such as the wooden beams of the crawl space. If mold is left untreated, it could lead to negative impacts on one's health. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to mold can cause asthma.
The crawl space needed an effective drainage system that would leave the crawl space dry, such as a dimpled polyethylene membrane. The dimples allow water to flow to a sump while protecting the CleanSpace that is installed on top. CleanSpace is always paired with dimpled matting for added protection against rubble or dirt and proper draining. CleanSpace has an antimicrobial additive manufactured into the material which prevents mold growth on the liner. The liner is secured on the floor and walls, to keep outside moisture/air from escaping into the space. Once the encapsulation project was completed, the homeowner was stunned by not only the physical transformation but the peace of mind of knowing that his health wouldn't be at risk from mold.
Mold
Active mold spores such as the one pictured as spreading throughout the crawl space, putting the homeowner at risk for asthma.
Spider
If a spider is seen in your crawl space, then there is a good chance that other bugs are living there too. Spiders love hanging around dirt crawl spaces with future prey.
After
CleanSpace is a great vapor barrier option, plus it looks fantastic!
SmartSump and Sedona
The SmartSump will carry any water that was received by either the drainage matting or SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, out and away from the home.
Dimple Matiing
Dimple matting will direct water that came from the dirt round underneath, toward the SmartSump that was installed.
