Geolock Wall Anchors Installed in Petersburg, IN Home
Challenge
The homeowners for this ranch style home had been considering finishing the basement for several years to increase their usable living space. Two years ago, they had Healthy Spaces out to install a Waterguard basement waterproofing system in the basement. They contacted the Healthy Spaces offices again because they noticed the southern wall in the basement seemed to be bulging. Damon from Healthy Spaces came out to their home and determined that the southern wall was bowing due to expansive soils pressing against it. The basement is a block wall construction and the bulging was detected prior to any shearing off of blocks, which makes the repair far quicker and easier. The homeowners elected to use the Geolock Wall Anchor solution to straighten the wall. Since they were wanting to finish the basement, they were considering excavating the exterior soil near the wall and straightening the wall immediately. Due to access issues and a very small workspace on that side of the home, the homeowners determined that they would need to straighten the wall gradually instead.
Solution
The Healthy Spaces installation crew installed 6 Geolock Wall Anchors from Foundation Supportworks across the south wall. The homeowners decided that they would prefer to gradually tighten the anchors and straighten the wall. The anchors will provide stability for the wall and resistance against further bowing. As the soil around the home dries out or freezes seasonally, the homeowners will be able to tighten the anchors down and gradually straighten it.
