Henderson, KY Basement Walls Stabilized with PowerBraces
Challenge
These Henderson, KY homeowners were growing very concerned. Their basement had always been wet, but it wasn't until later this Fall that they noticed the walls in the basement were actually being pushed inward. "I was concerned the whole thing was just going to fall in until I would see dirt someday or something like it. I literally had nightmares," the homeowner said.
The walls were bowing inward due to the presence of groundwater and that groundwater was making the expansive soils around the home swell. "Our basement was being squeezed in on all sides like an empty can," the homeowners remarked. It can be scary to think of a home being compressed that way. Forces like that require a comprehensive and long-lasting solution to make sure that nothing happens down the road.
The biggest concern for the homeowners was price. They simply couldn't spend a fortune repairing the home and still manage their other obligations.
Solution
The homeowners met with Damon Cheatham of Healthy Spaces and after a comprehensive evaluation, Damon was able to present three different possible solutions. Based on price and the overall project scope, the homeowners opted for a middle of the road approach: resolve the water intrusion, control the bowing, and direct the water out of the basement far from the home.
The Healthy Spaces team installed 17 Powerbraces from floor to ceiling in the basement along the perimeter. They also installed 1100 sqft of Brightwall and 107 linear feet of Waterguard. Together, this system would reinforce the walls, remove moisture from the basement walls and surrounding ground, and direct that collected moisture downhill from the home.
The entire installation took 5 days and the homeowners are resting comfortably, knowing their basement is safe.
