A homeowner in Owensboro, KY reached out about a concern about mold growing in the crawl space. When mold spores find the right combination of temperature, food source, and moisture, they will start to grow. When mold grows, it reproduces more airborne seeds to grow more mold. Just like a dandelion seed, mold seeds are like tiny parachutes that float through the air. Ending the mold spore cycle will protect the homeowner in the future.
To give the homeowner a sense of security, mold remediation was performed throughout the crawl space. Every nick and cranny where mold was seen, was scrubbed and sprayed away. To protect the crawl space from any outside air leaks or water, CleanSpace was laid throughout the ground and sides of the crawl space. A SaniDry Sedona was hooked up to create a dry air flow since mold can thrive in 70% to 90% humidity. Once the mold is controlled and prevented, the homeowner will have peace of mind knowing that their health is not at risk.

When there is water outside of a basement window, it will leak into the basement. This was becoming an issue for a homeowner in Owensboro, KY. There are physical signs to look out for if the window of a basement is suspected to be leaking. Signs for water damage include water, rusted or drafty windows, or if the window wells are rusty or open. These issues happen because the gutters overflow into the window well: the ground around the window is pitched toward the house, or the downspout is dumping lots of water near the window. There were solutions to this problem that the homeowner was ready to solve.
A drain was installed from the window well to the perimeter drainage system around the basement that leads to the sump pump. A drain hole is drilled through the basement wall just under the windowsill. EverLast window was installed. The window is energy-efficient and all-vinyl, making it perfect for the basement, Once the new EverLast window is put in, it will effectively keep water out of the basement, leaving the homeowner satisfied!

A home in Owensboro, KY, wanted to transform its dingy basement into a livable place to stay. The floors and walls of the basement contained mold that needed to be removed before it caused health issues for the homeowner. Mold grows on wet organic materials that reproduce and send off airborne spores and then land on other wet organic surfaces to grow. The basement had a musty smell that was contributed by the spores. The homeowner was excited to see the results!
Mold remediation was performed to create a healthy environment to live and breathe in. Once the mold was taken care of, it was easy to finish the basement! A SuperSump and WaterGuard system was installed to remove any water that enters the basement that would otherwise create humidity and mold. New paneling was installed to give the basement a "finished" look. EverLast, the new paneling, does not contain drywall; it will not grow or be damaged by water. The homeowner was thrilled to have an amazing, healthy space without worrying about their health.

Mr. H had been researching crawlspace waterproofing options for several years. He wasn't finding exactly what he wanted and he kept putting off dealing with the seasonal water intrusion. He met with Donnie, a Healthy Spaces design specialist several times over the course of his research and was impressed with his knowledge and the options available. Mr. H said, "Donnie and Healthy Spaces kept having more options and improvements available as I spoke with them. I realized that their company was really committed to offering me the best solutions, so I went ahead and did it!"
Donnie made sure that Mr. H and the rest of the family understood everything that was going to be installed and why. The installation crew, led by Richie Cline, walked the H's through the project upon arrival and gave them daily photo updates via email of exactly what stage of the project was in the works. The H's felt that the crew worked very hard. In fact, Mrs. H said, "Special thanks to Richie and his crew. They made everything as it should be and were so nice and polite!"

These West Louisville homeowners have had a problem with a flooding basement for several years and decided to have the problem remedied because they didn't want their children to have to fix a wet basement. Mr. and Mrs. B felt that they weren't "getting any younger and it was the responsible thing to do", so they contacted Healthy Spaces to have a Waterguard perimeter drain system with SuperSump and CleanSpace Wall system installed.
Mr. and Mrs. B were really impressed with the efficiency and cleanliness of the project. They were most impressed and thrilled with the service they received. "The crew offered to haul out a couple items she (Mrs. B) was going to dispose of so we wouldn't have to. We are an elderly couple and I have major medical issues, so the crew decided to help us out with moving larger items back into the basement too!" Mr. B said. Both homeowners were thrilled and would recommend Healthy Spaces to their friends and neighbors!
Jeffrey and his family had a flooding basement. "It was making it impossible to keep the house sane anymore. The kids were everywhere and there wasn't a dedicated space for them to play in with their friends. It was driving me crazy, " said Mrs. S. They decided it was time to take back their basement and finish it. But first, they needed to keep it from flooding.
"I chose Healthy Spaces because they just had a good reputation and seemed to nice," said Jeffrey, "They are very good and knowledgable and they cleaned out all the mess after they finished".
Over six months after the basement was treated for mold and waterproofed, Jeffrey reports that the basement is finished as a playroom and rec room for the family. The basement waterproofing system has worked perfectly! No flooding and no moisture.
Gil and his wife had to vacuum up water from their basement constantly. It was becoming exhausting. They were spending between 1 and two hours a day trying to keep the basement under control. As summer became fall, they decided to do something about it. The basement was still leaking with no signs of stopping.
The Healthy Spaces installation team moved forward with the installation even though the basement was not dry. The sump pump pit filled with water throughout the installation and had to be pumped out continuously. The Waterguard system functioned perfectly and did exactly what it was supposed to do—keep the basement dry all the time!
Most of us would want more storage and recreation space. The basement is a perfect place to make that happen. Adam and his wife wanted just that, but their basement was constantly wet!
The Healthy Spaces team installed 146 linear feet of Waterguard, 5 inspection ports, the TripleSafe Sump pump system with over 25 feet of discharge line, and 90 linear feet of CleanSpace Wall System, as well as a FloodRing around the water heater and a Sanidry Upright with ductwork. The installation was a textbook one with no major problems and kept to the 5 day installation schedule perfectly! The homeowners were thrilled with their newly waterproofed basement and the financing provided. Clean up was a 5 star rating!
A crawlspace can be a very difficult space to keep clean, dry, and mold free. The biggest issue that the homeowners were facing was how to secure their horribly broken and mangled crawlspace door in order to keep the relative indoor humidity level under control and the crawlspace locked up. As the cover cracked further, their crawlspace was now actively leaking conditioned air from the HVAC system into the outdoors and pulling in humid outdoor air into the crawlspace.
The homeowners contacted Healthy Spaces and asked how to resolve the problem. Damon, a design specialist, said that the most effective solution would be to install a Turtl door. The Turtl door was easy to install and the entire process went smoothly and quickly for Richie and his crew. Turtl doors are durable, rigid plastic that will not rust or break. They were done in a single day and the crawlspace is already showing lower relative humidity.
This Philpot, KY crawlspace was flooding seasonally and needed mold remediation badly. The homeowners had tried without success to dry out the space and hopefully kill the mold that way, but it wasn't working. In desperation, they contacted Damon Cheatham, Crawlspace Design Specialist, to create a custom solution to dry out the crawlspace. He recommended a full mold remediation to resolve the mold issues. Next, he recommended a drainage system and sump pump systems to keep the area from flooding. Finally, Damon recommended a thick, durable vapor barrier.
Robert and his family had been away from their home in Owensboro, KY for a couple of weeks. When they returned home, he started to notice the floors sagging a couple of weak spots in the floor. He knew that he didn't want the problem to get any worse and knew he recently had a family member that had work done by Healthy Spaces who highly recommended us. He decided to take advantage of the free assessment and gave Healthy Spaces a call.
Shortly after giving us a call, an appointment was set for Abe Ford to come out and assess his crawl space. After the inspection, Abe diagnosed the problem due to his floor joists showing signs of compression due to the weight of the home --and too few support posts. Healthy Spaces came installed 3 SmartJacks in the crawl space. The SmartJack System provides solid support for sagging and undersized beams, restoring stability and straightness to sagging floors joists in a crawl space.
Robert has been very happy with the work completed by Healthy Spaces and said that he would recommend them to anyone he knows needing foundation work done.

She noted that the cough got better when she went to work, but worsened again in the evenings and even more on the weekends.

Homeowner Phillip D. from Maceo, KY would worry every time it rained because water would always leak into his basement. He always had to have a plan together such as turning the dehumidifier and fans on, but ultimately he'd have to wait until it stopped raining to see the damage. What made this even worse, was that his basement was carpet and the water intruding would leave a musty smell because it was molding. Water had been leaking into his basement for several years but had recently noticed the puddles on the carpet growing larger every time it rained. After searching the web, Phillip found Healthy Spaces and decided to give us a call.
Our Design Specialist, Chris Russel was sent our to Phillips home to complete a thorough inspection of his basement. The waterproofing system that will be installed is called a WaterGuard system. The key to this waterproofing system is that it has an opening to drain water from the walls. It is engineered specifically to be an efficient, long-lasting interior perimeter basement system. It sits on top of the footing of the basement, instead of alongside of it which allows for water to drain to the sump pump.
Since Phillip's new system has been installed, he has been able to enjoy his extra square footage in his basement without the worry of it ever being wet from the rain. He is very satisfied with the products our Design Specialist helped him pick and can definitely say that he isn't worried about a wet basement anymore!
What's worse than a wet basement? A wet basement AND crawl space. These Whitesville, KY homeowners were, unfortunately, experiencing both. With their basement used for storage, it made it very difficult to keep everything dry and in good condition. With plans to build a new home, they knew they had to get these issues under control to be able to sell it. They met one of our design specialists at the Owensboro home show and decided to schedule an appointment.
Design Specialist, Donnie Stuteville, recommended these homeowners upgrade to a drainage system in their basement, as well as a CleanSpace barrier in their crawl space. The WaterGuard drainage system is installed around the perimeter of the basement and directly flows into the sump pump. From there, it is taken through discharge lines and disposed of into the ground. The CleanSpace vapor barrier protects from mold and rot, as well as become a dry crawl space will also be inhospitable to termites, cockroaches, ants, crickets, and many other pests that need excess moisture to survive.
Not only would these homeowners have a healthy space, they would have a new place to store items that protect them for years to come!
It can be so frustrating when problems such as mold pop up out of nowhere and disrupts plans. In the winter, mold becomes dormant, but will become active again as soon as warmer weather approaches. Before it bothers a homeowner's health or allergy, it is always best to schedule a FREE inspection at Healthy Spaces. A home in Owensboro, Kentucky, had a moisture problem that led to mold growth in the crawl space. Mold not only can someone's health, but the structure of their home. Mold can break down the surface of the wooden structures, leading to sagging unleveled floors.
If the problem has been present long enough and the floor is not affected, SmartJacks are the best option to stabilize the structure. To prevent future moisture from escaping in, the crawl space was encapsulated. Once the encapsulation is completed, the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier constantly runs to create a dry atmosphere. Once the encapsulation is completed and a dry airflow is created, the homeowner was astonished by the transformation!
